Our mission
To enhance the lives, functioning and communication of adults with severe physical disabilities.

How do we do this?
Through a recreational and educational day program that provides continuing education, recreational activities, health and wellness activities, community inclusion activities and meaningful social interactions.

Our mandate
To defend and promote the rights and interests of adults with severe physical disabilities living in the Greater Montreal region, including Laval, the Laurentians and the South Shore through the provision of educational programming and recreational activities. C.A.R.E focuses primarily on the Anglophone and Allophone populations. C.A.R.E. works in collaboration with other organizations to provide continuing education and community social inclusion.

Who we are
C.A.R.E., Centre d'activités récréatives et éducatives (also known as the C.A.R.E. Centre) is a day-centre in the Montréal area that offers recreational and educational activities to adults over the age of 21 with physical disabilities. The Centre is located in the Wagar Adult Education Centre on 5785 Parkhaven Avenue in Cote St-Luc.  We have been in existence as a registered charity and non-profit organization since 1995. We have the support of the English Montréal School Board and The Ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux du Quebec.

Our programs
Our program is unique as we are the only English program in the city that maintains a 2:1 client to caregiver ratio, supports specialized programming that is accessible to our clients who are wheelchair users, require assistance with most activities of daily living (i.e. feeding, dressing, toileting), and who use alternate forms of communication (i.e. computers, picture boards, tablets, & Bliss symbolics). During the school year we run a 5-day-a-week educational and recreational day program along with a community inclusions outings program. During the summer we offer a community outings program. Our goal is to provide our clients with quality continuing education, community social inclusion and to provide continuity of specialized services after aging out of school at age 21.

Why the C.A.R.E. Centre matters
We offer to our clients a stimulating and supportive program that allows for them to challenge themselves physically, intellectually and socially.

Our Centre offers a holistic health and wellness program that will ensure a continuity of services for adults with disabilities after the age of 21. This program will allow us to help clients to maintain their physical functioning, and support their use of communication technologies.

More than just recreation
We are able to assist our clients to contact the necessary resources to help them live full and enriching lives. This help may include accessing adapted equipment, facilitating wheelchair repair, and advocating for specific needs. Our caregivers are available to help the clients with individual problems or concerns on a one-to-one basis. On a group level, we are also working with the clients to improve communication, life skills and self-empowerment.

At the C.A.R.E. Centre the staff and clients form a special bond and develop many friendships that are long lasting. We are a place to learn, to socialize, to communicate and to have fun.

Areas of focus
the C.A.R.E. Centre we have many areas of focus but the main components are community inclusion, education, recreation, health & wellness, communication, and social skills.
